Description
We are seeking skilled, reliable general laborers to join a growing company. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting contractors, operating heavy machinery, and following all site health and safety regulations. A strong work ethic and attention to detail are essential to success in this role. Leadership ability is a plus in this role.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Unload tools, prepare building site materials, stack building materials, and set up equipment
- Follow project instructions from construction manager or supervisor
- Consult with construction plans
- Direct traffic safely around the construction or road maintenance site
- Use construction and maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks
- Follow all health and safety regulations when operating equipment
- Ensure regulated and proper headgear, earplugs, gloves, safety glasses, and clothing are worn
- Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
- Assist in building scaffolding and temporary structures
- Safely operate a variety of tools including pressure washers, jackhammers, drills, saws, grinders, and blowtorches
- May prepare new construction sites by digging, moving dirt, or compacting space
- Provide assistance to contractors (i.e. craft workers, electricians, painters, welders) as needed
- Clean and clear debris and hazardous materials
- Ensure construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
- Perform site clean-up
- May provide supervision to workers of lower rank
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Must have 3 years or more experience as a general laborer with concrete and/or demolition expertise in the construction industry
- High school diploma, vocational education is a plus
- Must be punctual and reliable (Must have reliable transportation)
- Comprehensive knowledge of general construction and repair methods and the proper utilization and care of tools, materials and equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of traditional building materials, practices, and techniques.
- Must be able to read a tape measure
- Able to do physical labor and other strenuous tasks as needed
- Able to communicate effectively
- Must have steel-toed boots and blue jeans (Hard hats and safety apparel will be provided)
- Clean background preferred; offenses reviewed on a case by case basis
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification preferred
Work environment
- Availability to work overtime and some weekends
- Long periods outdoors, exposed to various types of weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold
- Construction job site that may include great heights
